On the importance of teaching robust work using qualitative methods in the social sciences.
I am often frustrated by how some people seem to think qualitative methods are somehow “easier”. They’re not. BUT we need to teach them properly so other scholars can understand their importance, relevance and rigor.

This post summarizes my reading notes on Van Maanen’s ethnographic classic. One thing I loved about Van Maanen is that he provides excellent advice on how to write field notes.
